Inspired by the rugged, blocky lava stones formed by Oregon's ancient volcanoes, the Gnawt-a-Rock is built for the dogs who like to think as hard as they play. That irregular, multi-faceted shape means it doesn't roll away smoothly - it skitters, hops, and changes direction with every throw, keeping your dog guessing right until the catch.
Fill the internal chamber with kibble or treats, set it down, and the second game begins. It only releases a few pieces at a time as it moves - so it transforms a fast, frantic meal into a calm, focused mental workout. Both games are completely different. Both are genuinely tiring.

What's the difference between the Gnawt-a-Rock, Gnawt-a-Cone and Gnawt-a-Stick?
All three are part of Ruffwear's Gnawt-a-Toys collection, each inspired by a different piece of the Oregon landscape. The Rock is the only one that works as both a fetch toy and a rolling slow feeder - fill it with treats or kibble and it dispenses as your dog noses it around. The Gnawt-a-Cone has a stuffable treat chamber for a static licking challenge after fetch. The Gnawt-a-Stick is the fetch and float specialist - shaped for throwing and the only one that works in water. Worth having all three if your dog likes variety.
How does the slow feeder puzzle work?
Fill the internal chamber with treats or kibble, set it down, and let your dog figure it out. The irregular shape means it doesn't roll in a straight line - it wobbles and changes direction as your dog noses it around, which is what makes it genuinely engaging rather than just a ball with a hole in it. The treats dispense gradually as it moves, so it takes time and focus to empty. Good for slowing down fast eaters and for rainy day enrichment when a long walk isn't on the cards.
Is the Gnawt-a-Rock suitable for power chewers?
Yes - unlike the Gnawt-a-Stick, which is designed for gentle chewers, the Gnawt-a-Rock is rated for power chew styles. The natural latex rubber is tough and chew-resistant, built to handle the kind of dog who gives everything they've got. Supervised play is still recommended, and if any part becomes loose or detached, take the toy away and replace it.
Is the natural latex rubber safe?
Yes. The Gnawt-a-Rock is made from natural latex rubber - food-safe, non-toxic, and FDA approved for food contact. Free from the harsh chemical smell you sometimes get with cheaper synthetic toys, and top-rack dishwasher safe when it needs a clean after a treat session.
