How does the Ruffwear Knot-a-Leash locking carabiner work?

The tri-action auto-locking carabiner opens with a lift, twist and open movement. It locks automatically when closed, while the swivel lets the connection rotate as your dog moves, helping keep the rope from twisting and tangling.

Is the Knot-a-Leash adjustable or stretchy?

The Knot-a-Leash is a fixed-length rope lead, without a length-adjustment system or bungee section. 

Can I use the Knot-a-Leash for running or hands-free walking?

The Knot-a-Leash is designed to be held by its tubular webbing handle. It has no built-in adjustment for wearing around your waist, so if you run with it, you’ll be holding the handle rather than using it hands-free.

If you’re looking for a hands-free running lead, the Ruffwear Roamer is designed for that different setup. Its adjustable handle can be worn around your waist, while stretch webbing allows more give between you and your dog than the Knot’s fixed rope construction.

How does the Knot-a-Leash compare with the Crag Reflective Dog Lead?

Both leads have reflective detailing that catches light from a torch or vehicle headlights. Neither produces its own light. The main difference is what you hold and how it connects: the Knot-a-Leash uses round kernmantle rope with a tri-action auto-locking carabiner, while the Ruffwear Crag Reflective Dog Lead uses flat Tubelok webbing with a Talon Clip.

The Knot has a simple hand-held loop. The Crag adds a padded, adjustable handle that can be worn around your waist, plus a separate traffic handle near the clip. If you’re choosing a reflective dog lead, those differences in feel and carrying options may help narrow it down.

What’s the difference between the Knot-a-Leash and Knot-a-Long?

Despite its name, the Ruffwear Knot-a-Long is the shorter lead. The Knot-a-Leash is 1.5 m long, while the Knot-a-Long measures 0.76 m. Both use reflective rope, a soft tubular webbing handle and a swivelling, tri-action auto-locking carabiner.

The Knot-a-Leash gives your dog more room to explore. The Knot-a-Long leaves less spare rope between you, which can suit busier paths or walks where you want your dog closer. How either length feels will also depend on your height and your dog’s height.
