Design Overview - Ruffwear Haul Bag

The Ruffwear Haul bag is a bit of a magic dog bag, in fact it reminds us of the bag in Mary Poppins, why? Because the space inside is endless! 

We take a lot of kit with us for Albie & Kizzie, often driving to take them on their walks we have a bag in the car filled with things we might need for them. Although we don't take the kitchen sink with us (almost!) we do take things they need both on a regular basis and those less frequently required but that we still like to have 'just in case'.

Where would you use the Ruffwear Haul Bag?

For all dog owners the Ruffwear Haul Bag can be used anywhere and anytime.

While doing our product review we quickly realised the Haul Bag wasn't just for packing essentials to keep in the car for dog walks but was in fact highly portable and something that you could take with you wherever you go. 

We think the Ruffwear Haul Bag is well suited for a multitude of purposes from general storage in the car or around the home, as a travel holdall for holidays, or as a professional dog trainers bag packed with training class essentials.

For anyone that enjoys camping trips or heading into the great outdoors we also think this bag will quickly become a key part of your travel system due to it's endless storage space for items such as roll-up travel beds.

Storage Capacity - Ruffwear Haul Bag

Our previous 'dog bag' was a standard tote style shopping bag and not particularly practical.

We are delighted to say that the Ruffwear Haul bag has solved all our storage problems with it's impressive 25L capacity. There was more than enough space to cope with all the supplies needed for our two golden retrievers with room left spare.

What did we pack in the Ruffwear Haul Bag? 

A better question might be what didn't we pack!

We crammed as much as we could possibly fit into the bag and were amazed (and rather pleased) to find we still had plenty of space left after.

Items we packed included a toy each, dog coats, treats, bowls, leads, a towel and even some first aid equipment should our accident prone dog Albie get into any trouble.

Over the few weeks that we tested the Haul Bag we didn't even need to use the two external full length zipped pockets and of the three internal mesh pockets we used just two. 

Design Features we loved

The two carrying handles were comfortable to hold and the addition of the padded shoulder strap was a great addition which gave us a choice of how to carry the bag depending on what we were doing.

The wide gate mouth is held rigid by a hinged metal bar sewn into the fabric that runs around the rim of the bag which made it easy to access the inside with zero fumbling.

A multitude of pockets both inside and out was an organisational dream, everything had it's own special place and the pockets on the outside gave instant access to anything we regularly used without having to open the bag fully.

Fed up of previously having wet, muddy, long-lines thrown into the car and balls that rolled under car seats never to be seen again the Haul Bag by Ruffwear has provided us with handy pockets where we can quickly stash things away neatly and without having to clean the car upholstery after a walk.

Conclusion - so how does it rate?

We originally reviewed the Ruffwear Haul Bag in March 2015. Two years later in May 2017 and we have come back to update this blog with new photos and a revised list of items we store in it, needless to say we are still delighted with the Haul Bag. It has been with us on holidays, in the car for walks and for days out on picnics - it will need it's own passport soon!
