Valerian Compound

1 item left

Dorwest Organic Valerian Compound is a concentrated herbal liquid that is used in the treatment for the relief of nervousness or anxiety in dogs and cats.

This fast-acting liquid contains three natural and relaxing herbal extracts that work quickly to calm and settle your pet within half an hour of administration, perfect situations such as thunderstorms or fireworks.

A gentle blend of Vervain, Organic Valerian and Mistletoe work together in harmony for fast-acting and easy to administer relief without sedating or causing drowsiness.

How do I use the liquid?

The easy to use dropper enables liquid to be dispensed directly onto your pet's food or into their mouth, even just a few drops sprinkled onto their bedding will create a gentle aroma that will start to make a difference to their behaviour and induce a calm state.

Cats particularly love the smell of Valerian Compound, so administration really couldn’t be simpler.

(Pease be aware that the bottles have a glass pipette dropper for easy administration but require care in use to avoid breakage or injury).

What can it be used for?

The effects of Dorwest Organic Valerian Compound are fast acting (within 30 minutes of being given) and will last for around two hours which makes it an ideal treatment to help relieve fears of specific one-off situations such as thunderstorms, unexpected fireworks displays or for visiting your vet.

For situations that will last longer than a couple of hours or for especially fearful or phobic pets Valerian Compound can be used in conjunction with Dorwest Valerian & Scullcap Tablets.

What dosage should I give?

Small dogs & cats ¼ tsp; Medium dogs ½ tsp; Large dogs 1 tsp; Giant breeds 1½ tsp. given when required. It is not recommended that more than two doses of the above amounts be given in a 24 hour period.

What does it smell of?

It's difficult to describe a smell but we frequently use many of the products we sell and the only way we can describe it would be as a pleasantly sweet smell which is quite different to Pet Remedy.

Fireworks Season Top tip

Buy your supply of Organic Valerian Compound (and Scullcap and Valerian Tablets if using together) well in advance of fireworks night - there is often huge demand around this time. See guide below for help selecting the correct product for your dog or cat.

Which Dorwest Relaxing product should I use?

Dorwest relaxing products are available in two formats; Organic Valerian Compound and Scullcap & Valerian Tablets, the two products can be used in combination with each other for pets that are especially phobic or stressed.

Organic Valerian Compound

Quicker acting and perfect to use as a 'top up' in addition to your pets normal dose of Scullcap & Valerian Tablets the Valerian Compound will help your pets cope with unpredicted fireworks events (such as neighbours having a display) or a thunderstorm.

The liquid is ideal for calming dogs or cats by dropping it onto some food before feeding or using a small amount on their bedding.

Scullcap & Valerian Tablets

Used daily and on a longer-term basis Dorwest Scullcap & Valerian Tablets (here) will provide your pet with better coverage and are ideal to start using in the lead up to Fireworks Night.

Are your pets ready for fireworks?

Start giving Scullcap & Valerian Tablets daily now.

One day to go

If necessary double the dose of Scullcap & Valerian Tablets (if you haven't started giving any dose at all yet it isn't too late to start, your pet will still feel some benefit)

The big Day

Keep giving the Scullcap & Valerian Tablets at the higher dose (if needed) with a dose being given before dusk. Ensure you have Organic Valerian Compound on hand to top-up with if necessary.

What if it doesn't work?

Anxiety and nervous behaviour in dogs and cats can be due to a number of varied causes including habitual ingrained anxiety.

Every pet is different and with a unique personality will respond to their own treatment plan, while herbal products are ideal to induce a calm and relaxed demeanour some cases will also strongly benefit from the additional use of behavioural techniques from a qualified animal behaviourist (guidance to finding a qualified behaviourist here).
